Guidelines

Remain calm.

A spirit may touch you, but don’t panic! It might just be a soldier saying hi.

Be polite.

The ghosts of Annapolis have been known to bite! Be kind to the undead.

Do not provoke the spirits.

It’s hard enough down here; please don’t make their eternal turmoil harder than it has to be.

Stay together.

We don’t want to lose any guests to the spirit world; if you get tempted to follow the ghostly trumpet sounds, check your party can hear them too.

Watch your step.

Annapolis has claimed many lives over the years, gambling, debts, lost fortunes, and doomed love, but there has not yet been a Crabtown Ghosts tour fatality, let’s try and keep it that way!

Real History | Real Hauntings

Annapolis, with its origins in 1694, is steeped in a history that’s as rich as it is haunting. Once a bustling port and the “Athens of America,” its streets saw revolutionaries, wealthy merchants, and gruff sailors. However, darker stories unfolded beneath its Georgian mansions and lively taverns—tales of betrayal, violence, and hidden truths that refused to stay buried. The revival of its crumbling colonial architecture in the 20th century reawakened these spirits, linking the past to the present. From spectral sailors waiting for long-lost ships to restless souls of enslaved individuals at the Brice House, Annapolis is alive with ghostly echoes of its turbulent history.

Why is Annapolis so Haunted?

Annapolis’ rich and turbulent past makes it one of the most haunted cities in America. Founded in 1694, this colonial boomtown was a hub of maritime trade, revolution, and high society. Behind the charm of Georgian mansions and lively taverns frequented by patriots like Washington and Jefferson, darker tales of violence, betrayal, and oppression unfolded. The city’s involvement in slavery, war, and rebellion left a lingering energy that refuses to fade. As its historic buildings were revived, long-buried secrets emerged—stories of haunted taverns, restless sailors, and tragic souls that still roam its cobblestone streets. Annapolis is truly where history haunts.
